IT'S a Yeti alright, but one almost as rare as the abominable snowman itself.

Feast your eyes on Skoda's new Yeti Xtreme - a car dressed to thrill and ready to live life on the edge.

In truth it's a compact SUV with rally car aspirations, right down to the aluminium floor, Recaro sports seats, carbon fibre trim and Super Sports steering wheel.

It also has Octavia RS brakes, off-road features and a fire extinguisher.

And where better place to display this most Xtreme Yeti yet than cult tuning festival the GTi event at Worthersee, Austria.

The concept car is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine mated to a six-speed dual clutch DSG transmission and can scorch from 0-62mph in nine seconds. Top speed is 120mph.

Painted in a striking matt-grey the Yeti stands on 17-inch alloy wheels and large off-road tyres, while its tinted side windows, roof and wheel rim inserts are set off in a bright yellow-green.

Up front there's a powerful bumper and a large air intake, along with LED headlights and at the rear are two wide exhaust tailpipes.

The boot includes a spare wheel and so-called ‘recovery tracks', special traction mats that can be pushed under the wheels should the car get stuck in sand.

Passengers can sit on four individual sports seats with integrated four-point safety belts and the inner door covers have been made entirely from carbon fibre.

The centre console has been completely redesigned for housing rally car accessories like a belt cutter and a fire extinguisher, while an iPad cradle is integrated into the dashboard and a first aid kit into the glovebox.
