IF it's amazing fuel economy and good clean motoring in a multi award-winning car that you're searching for then the striking Skoda Yeti has it all.

Not only does it have a claimed combined fuel efficiency of 61.4mpg but the Yeti Greenline is a great all-round package with plenty of versatility, comfort, built-in technology and good driving dynamics along the way.

Admittedly, it's not the fastest out of the starting blocks taking 12.1 seconds to reach 62mph and the top speed is just 109mph, but it's the refined manner in which the Yeti achieves such stats that really counts.

The 1.6-litre diesel-powered engine delivers plenty of bite and the acceleration through the five-speed manual gearbox is both smooth and responsive. I did find I was looking for a sixth gear on a couple of occasions when pushing hard on the motorway, but that aside it was difficult to fault the Yeti.

It looks great from any angle thanks to its bold, upright stance with large windows that allow light to flood into the cabin. Eye-catching features include 16-inch alloys, daytime running lights, front fog lights and roof rails.

And there is plenty of on-board technology to be explored along the way inside this four-door model, such as a dual-zone air con system with humidity sensor, cruise control, a sat nav system with DAB radio (£1,630 optional extra), rear parking sensors, Bluetooth connectivity, a six CD changer with MP3 compatibility and plenty more besides.

But features and performance aside, Yeti buyers demand a wealth of flexibility and versatility from their car and thankfully, it lives up to the high expectations.

The generously-sized boot comes complete with horizontal rails and sliding hooks that can hold carrier bags or be attached to a net. There is also a removable box that is ideal for keeping items in an upright position.

The storage capacity of 416 litres can easily be increased to 1,580 litres with the seats folded flat and there is a large glovebox, deep central bin and covered tray on top of the dashboard.

The Yeti also boasted Skoda's impressive Varioflex seats whereby the trio of rear seats can be adjusted forwards or backwards. The central seat can even be removed to create extra space.

Impressive efficiency figures are achieved with the aid of optimised rolling resistance tyres, kinetic energy recovery, stop and start technology and a gear change prompter to make sure you are driving in the most economical manner.

The Yeti is kitted out with a comprehensive range of safety features, including anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, anti-slip regulation, mechanical brake assist and numerous airbags.

All in all, the Yeti is exceptionally versatile and offers the best of both worlds. It can hold its own with fast-moving motorway traffic and then in busy town centres, the upright driving position, brilliant all-round visibility, agility and parking sensors all come into play.
