THE first model from the newly-created Special Operations team at Jaguar Land Rover will make its debut this weekend.

It is called the F-TYPE Project 7 and, aptly, will be shown at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed - in the 60th anniversary year of the Jaguar D-type racer that inspired its design.

Project 7 will be the most performance-focused derivative of the F-TYPE and be Jaguar's fastest and most powerful production model to date.

The roadster will be produced in an exclusive run of up to 250 cars, all hand-built by JLR's Special Operations unit.

Power comes from Jaguar's 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, now producing 575PS to fire the aluminium-bodied flyer to a 0-60mph time of 3.8-seconds and limited top speed of 186mph.

Buyers will also get a removable roof and 196-litre stowage space.

Transmission is via the company's eight-speed Quickshift automatic and carbon ceramic matrix brakes are fitted as standard.

Design elements include the D-type-inspired fairing behind the driver's head, shorter windshield, new front bumper, and downforce-increasing aerodynamic modifications.

That means a carbon-fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and adjustable rear spoiler.

However, the single-seater concept has been transformed into a two-seater, with rollover hoops for both driver and passenger now integrated into the design.

While the F-TYPE Project 7 features performance-focused engineering by Special Vehicle Operations - the engineering and vehicle division of Special Operations - its design has been kept true to the lines of the original Project 7 concept, which was unveiled last summer.

Jaguar design director Ian Callum said: "F-TYPE Project 7 is the perfect example of how, as a design team, we can move quickly with our engineering colleagues to go from concept vehicle to production reality - we've pushed the boundaries of what's possible without losing any purity of form."

The F-TYPE will be joined at Goodwood by the fastest ever production Land Rover in the shape of the Range Rover Sport SVR - the first model to wear the new SVR designation, which will be worn by all future high performance models.

A camouflaged prototype of the 550PS Sport SVR will take a break from its development schedule to perform a series of runs up the Goodwood Hill course in the festival of speed's ‘First Glance' category.

It is due to go on sale next year and has also been created by the special operations division.
