I GOT my hands on the smaller MG3 for the first time a little while ago and returned it with regret.
It is a spacious supermini that has more legroom than some cars in the small family class above and comes at a bargain price that undercuts some of its competitors by over £3,000.
It is also assembled in this country, which is a rarity these days. Every Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa is built abroad.
The petrol 1.5 engine might have slightly higher emissions than others, but it matches many on economy and beats most of them on performance - which is just as it should be for an MG.
The engine is very smooth and tuneful and although most of the power is at the top end, it is happy being revved.
It comes with a slick five-speed gearbox, the clutch is light and the steering has good feel in a straight line and through the corners.
It even rides reasonably well, which only adds to the appeal.
It comes with a wide range of kit in 3Form Sport specification, which includes stop/start, aircon, alloy wheels, electric windows and mirrors, hip and back hugging cloth seats and a 60/40 split folding back seat.
It has DAB radio, USB input, Bluetooth, stability control, and the boot is even a good size.
