RENAULT'S keyless entry and starting system is a marvellous invention.
As long as you have the key in a pocket or handbag, the central locking opens when your hand goes through the door handle.
And it locks automatically as you walk away from the car, without the driver having to do a thing. Brilliant.
This all came back to me as I walked to the Captur crossover with arms full of shopping and dropped it all on the back seat without any difficulty. Why don't all car makers do it?
I was driving the Captur 900cc turbo petrol, which surprisingly, is man enough for the weight.
It's about the same size as the Clio estate, but with raised ride height and chunky looks.
The little engine spins willingly and pulls well from low revs, giving a good feel even though it's not really very quick.
The ride is very good over all surfaces and the road holding safe and sticky, aided by excellent handling.
The Dynamique Nav I drove came with great touch screen sat nav, cruise, electric windows, alloys, climate, Bluetooth and rear parking sensors.
There's space for five plus a big boot and the high driving position can make access easier for people who are not as supple as they were.
