Audi SUV is right on
Q
AUDI aims to make a huge impact with the latest version of its full-blown SUV the Q7.
The new generation model makes its world debut at next month's Detroit Motor Show where it will weigh in up to 325kg lighter than before.
It also comes crammed with fresh infotainment and driver assistance technology while at the same time claiming to be the most spacious car in its area of the market.
And although the exterior dimensions have been reduced, it still offers substantially more interior room for passengers and luggage.
That's in addition to having engines that consume 26 per cent less fuel on average than the previous generation.
The first phase of UK-bound models will be powered by the latest incarnation of the 3.0 TDI engine with 272PS, which is capable of taking it from 0 to 62mph in 6.3 seconds.
The diesel V6 can return up to 47.8mpg in the Q7, corresponding to CO2 emissions of 153g/km.
Hot on their heels will be the Q7 e-tron quattro, the first plug in hybrid from Audi with a diesel engine and develops 373PS.
It can return the equivalent of 166.1mpg, which corresponds to less than 50g/km of CO2 while a full battery charge will take the car just under 35 miles.
On board all models is the Audi virtual cockpit including the new MMI all-in-touch control unit with large touchpad and the prestige brand's tablet for rear seat passengers.
There are also two sound systems with 3D audio, smartphone integration with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while new driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assistant.
Audi's technical development chief Ulrich Hackenberg said: "The new Audi Q7 is a statement of our competence. Weighing 325 kilograms less, it sets the benchmark in its class. It is around 26 per cent more efficient and is equipped with the latest assistance systems, infotainment modules and connect features."Prices will be announced later.
