HONDA has lifted the wraps from its new generation NSX supercar - a quarter century after the debut of the original.

Designed to deliver what the Japanese brand describes as a groundbreaking ‘New Sports eXperience', the production-ready speedster was presented at the Detroit Motor Show.

It is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine with nine-speed dual clutch transmission and three-electric motor Sport Hybrid system.

The car's body is low-slung and wide with an aggressive front and tail lights that hark back to the original NSX.

And to accommodate the new engine, the production vehicle was both lengthened and made wider with a slightly more cab-forward package compared with the proportions of the NSX Concept shown in 2012.

The NSX interior boasts exceptional forward visibility, simple and intuitive controls, and class-leading ergonomics-most notably the seat, which features top-class holding performance with outstanding comfort and easy ingress/egress.

Inside, the low-mounted instrument cluster, which features a TFT display that responds to changes in the dynamics system - with its Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track modes - ensures minimal obstructions to the driver's view of the road.

Honda says that using the front electric motors for dynamic torque vectoring results in an instantaneous "zero delay" launch performance and handling response.

Testing has been carried out at several of the world's most challenging race circuits, including the Nurburgring.

Mike Accavitti, general manager of Honda's prestige Acura division said: "The soul of a car is the emotional connection it makes with the driver. With the NSX, that connection will be intense and immediate."
