Honda plans a Geneva

explosion

IN what promises to prove a momentous spell for the Japanese brand, Honda will replace or refresh every model in its line-up this year.

And the Geneva Motor Show in March will see performance models for road and track, family cars and a fuel cell concept all unveiled in production guise for the first time.

Leading the way will be a pair of performance legends in the shape of the British-built Civic Type R and the much-anticipated production Honda NSX.

Described as a ‘race car for the road‘ the red-hot Civic boasts a world-first application of Honda's new 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine and is claimed to be the most extreme Type R yet.

And fresh from its global debut in Detroit, the NSX will make its European debut in Switzerland some 25 years after the original was first premiered.

Honda says the hybrid supercar has been specifically created to deliver a ‘New Sports eXperience' and is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine with nine-speed dual clutch transmission and three-electric motor Sport Hybrid system.

The car's body is low-slung and wide with an aggressive front and tail lights that hark back to the original NSX.

And to accommodate the new engine, the production vehicle was both lengthened and made wider with a slightly more cab-forward package compared with the proportions of the NSX Concept shown in 2012.

Meanwhile, production models of Honda's all-new HR-V and Jazz will also make their debut ahead of market launches later in the year.

The former blends the styling of a coupe with the toughness and utility of an SUV and re-enters an area of the market that Honda pioneered with the original HR-V in 1998.

And with fresh looks plus an upgraded interior, the third-generation Jazz features a new 1.3-litre petrol engine and also makes its debut in Geneva.

Looking to the future, the FCV Concept demonstrates the styling evolution of the next-generation zero emissions Honda fuel-cell vehicle.

Intended to provide significant gains in interior space, cost reduction and performance, it boasts an anticipated driving range over more than 300 miles and a refuelling time of three to five minutes.

Honda says its 2015 McLaren-Honda Formula 1 race car will also be on show at Geneva ahead of its debut at the season opener in the Australian Grand Prix on March 15.

Honda UK managing director Philip Crossman said: "There's no denying the past six or seven years have been tough for the Honda brand but with the fruits of a massive R&D investment now coming to the fore, 2015 is our year and the sleeping giant is awakening.

"Geneva is our springboard to explode the Honda brand back to where we belong with these outstanding new products, along with our F1 partnership, making us a desirable proposition once more."
