EXTREME performance at opposite ends of the motoring spectrum is on the way from Jeep.
The American 4x4 specialist has announced a heavy duty version of the Cherokee called the Trailhawk as well as a fire-breathing Grand Cherokee V8 with supercar credentials.
Powered by a 6.4-litre engine developing 461bhp the Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor can knock off 0 to 60 in five seconds and has a claimed top speed of 160mph.
Priced from £64,999 it's Jeep's answer to the growing number of high performance SUVs such as the Range Rover Sport and Audi's RS rated Q3.
The Trailhawk meanwhile is described as the ultimate off-road Cherokee and comes with a 'Trail Rated' badge denoting its ability to handle the harshest of conditions.
It uses a 3.2-litre V6 petrol engine mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox with a low-range transmission that includes Jeep's Selec-Terrain and Active Drive Lock 4x4 systems which give the vehicle extra grip.
Although designed for rough conditions the Trailhawk comes with creature comforts including leather upholstery, tinted glass and Jeep's Uconnect media centre with its 8.4-inch touch screen display and USB port.
It's priced from £34,245 which puts it towards the top of the current Cherokee range.
Damien Dally, head of brand, Jeep UK, said: "It's the ultimate Jeep Cherokee in terms of off-road capability."
