FOR most people the Nissan Pulsar is cheaper to buy and run as a petrol than a diesel.
Taking into account all the extra costs of the diesel and the very good economy of the petrol, it takes six and a half years to pay off the difference at 10,000 miles a year.
The Pulsar is a fine choice all round, with one of the biggest interiors in the small family class and in petrol form, one of the smoothest and quietest engines too.
And of course, Nissans have an enviable reputation for reliability and longevity that other car makers would love to match.
The 1.2 turbo delivers 115bhp, giving fine performance through the gears with a very willing nature.
It's comfortable over all road surfaces - even some very back roads in North Wales - and handled long, fast journeys with ease.
Handling and road holding are right up with the best in class and it can be huge fun to drive. It's also nearly £2,000 cheaper the class leader.
There is loads of rear legroom and a big boot, and equipment is good in all models from what I can see.
