Big cat conquers
light and space
THE new second generation Jaguar XF will cost from £32,300 when it arrives later this year.
That's £2,355 up on the current entry level version of the popular sports saloon.
But fans of the big cat's mid-range line-up, which sits between the upcoming compact XE and larger XJ, will be getting a car that's not only lighter and packed with technology but also boasts the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-hybrid model in its area of the market at 104g/km.
Revealed at this week's New York Auto Show, the newcomer has a longer wheelbase, more interior space and exceptionally low aerodynamic drag.
And Jaguar's aluminium architecture enables weight savings of up to 190kg - making the 163PS diesel model 80kg lighter than its nearest competitor.
The range comprises XF Prestige, XF R-Sport, XF Portfolio and XF S models with the 2.0d 163PS Prestige version kicking off the line-up.
Engines will consist of 163 and 180PS 2.0-litre diesel manual and automatic variants plus a 300PS diesel automatic and 380PS 3.0-litre petrol automatic.
Jaguar says there will be more head, leg and kneeroom for rear passengers and a feature of the car's interior will be a new 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Called InControl Touch Pro, it offers door-to-door navigation, iOS and Android connectivity and 17-speaker, 825W Meridian digital surround sound.
And extra technology includes the likes of LED headlights, a laser head-up display in colour, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with queue-assist, lane keep-assist, intelligent speed limiter and semi-automated parking.
Jaguar XF vehicle line director Ian Hoban said: "From an engineering perspective, our targets with the all-new XF were bound by one holistic goal - it had to do everything better, and it does."
