TOYOTA and its luxury brand Lexus have revealed all-new versions of their top two SUVs in the shape of the latest RAV4 and the new RX.
The pair were shown off for the first time at the New York Auto Show where it was announced that the RAV4 will also be available with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
The new RAV4 Hybrid will be arriving in the UK early next year - a few months after the fourth generation line-up is launched alongside the latest Lexus RX.
Using a 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor to power the rear wheels, the new RAV4 is a 4x4 which can tow 1.65 tonnes.
It is also fitted with LED headlamps and a 360 degree panoramic camera system to help manoeuvring.
Anti-collision systems have been upgraded to activate from speeds as low as 6mph while it will also be able to detect potential collisions with pedestrians.
The new RX meanwhile has undergone a major transformation and takes style cues from the new Lexus NX.
It will be available either with a 3.5-litre V6 engine or as a hybrid with both powertrains delivering around 300bhp.
Inside, the cockpit is dominated by a 12.3-inch display screen while a longer wheelbase of 2.79 metres creates more space for passengers.
An F Sport model with even sharper styling is also being released complete with the option of exclusive paint jobs.
The RX is the best-selling model in Lexus's 26-year history with more than 2.1 million being sold - 30 per cent of the company's entire output.
