Pageant of Power
flexes its muscles
AMERICAN muscle cars and Eighties supercars will share centre stage at this year's Cholmondeley Pageant of Power in Cheshire.
First up, on the Saturday of the three-day festival June 13, the power theme will be revving up with a dedicated concours of high-performance Stateside supermacy.
And among the motors featured will be a 1969 Ford Mustang, in the shape of a Bud Moore replica Boss 302.
Honouring the famous NASCAR driver and team owner, the car was fully competition-prepared but never raced, and will star alongside other American icons including a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air.
On the final day of the event, visitors will be taken back to the Eighties with a celebration of eye-catching supercars like a wedge-shaped Lamborghini Countach in the shape of a 1983 LP500S model.
Accompanying the Countach will be another poster car heavyweight - a 1988 Ferrari Testarossa - in this case a Pininfarina-designed ‘Red Head', which made its debut at the 1984 Paris Auto Show.
CPOP event director James Hall said: "There are so many amazing groups within automotive history, but these two really bring something exciting.
"We hope the power of the muscle cars and the nostalgia of the Eighties supercars that so many of us lusted after, will be of wide appeal to this year's visitors."
Now in its eighth year, the pageant will celebrate ‘power' on land, air and water and also honour the Lotus marque on the Friday with a parade of every production model ever made.
Motorcycle legends Dougie Lampkin and Sammy Miller will also be on hand throughout the weekend, in addition to machines like the Millyard Viper V10 and a Suzuki Hayabusa.
The final day, Sunday, June 14, will see the world's only flying Vulcan take to the skies above Cholmondeley, while the Red Bull Matadors will also be putting on an aerobatic display.
Adult tickets are from £29 with children's tickets starting from £7. Info from the CPOP website.
