THE Hyundai Coupe is a good looking, accomplished2+2sports car that depreciates slowly and is good fun to drive.
And although it no longer applies to this model, a great bonus worth mentioning with later models is the remainder of the transferable five year warranty.
The Coupe's reliability is excellent and it makes a great secondhand sports buy.
The smallest engine is a 103bhp 1.6-litre, and then comes a 2.0-litre litre with a healthy 141bhp. At the top of the range is a 165bhp V6, and many of the 2.0 and 2.7-litre models have a good four-speed automatic instead of a five-speed manual gearbox.
The 1.6 has reasonable performance, but the best buy is the 2.0-litre for its combination of a great drive and decent economy.
It has quick acceleration, even in fifth and there is always immediate urge under the right foot.
The ride is comfortable and the road holding decently agile and grippy, if not quite up to the best.
The gearchange is pretty good, the clutch light and the ABS brakes are excellent.
There is very little legroom behind a six footer, but it is practical in other ways, with a decent boot and a 50/50 split folding rear seat.
