MORE than a hundred of the world's rarest and most expensive cars will be taking part in this year's Concours of Elegance which is being held at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh.
Established in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the original event was at Windsor Castle and the Concours has been held at a royal palace every year since, raising more than £600,000 for charity.
This year's event is being staged over the weekend of September 4th to 6th and 60 cars will make up the main Concours, including a Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spider - one of only10 built.
The cars on show range in age from 1905 right up to the modern day.
One of the main attractions will feature the world's largest ever collection of cars from the legendary Scottish racing team, Ecurie Ecosse, including the Le Mans winning Jaguar.
Ecurie Ecosse was formed back in 1951 and chalked up historic victories in the 1956 and 1957 Le Mans races.
Its iconic metallic blue livery was also seen in Formula One and Formula Two and the line-up will feature three Jaguar C-types and two of the hugely successful D-types. In addition, even the legendary 1959 Transporter will be on show.
Other Scottish theme events will include a special Sir Jackie Stewart tribute which will showcase his three world championship-winning F1 cars - the first time all three have been together in one place.
Other Scottish racing drivers celebrated include Johnny Dumfries and the stunning Jaguar XJR-9 he drove to victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1988.
Two of double world champion Jim Clark's Formula One cars will also be on display.
Dario Franchitti will be showcasing the three cars that came with each of histhree victories at the Indianapolis 500. It's a race tradition that the winner gets to take home the pace car from the event.
This year the Concours is raising funds for Walking with the Wounded, Action on Addiction and Sir Jackie Stewart's charity, Springfield Motor Racing's Club for Young People.
Amongst the other cars on show will be a gorgeous 1912 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.
One of six Rolls-Royce cars in the main Concours event, this particular model was inspired by the Silver Ghost's return journey from London to Edinburgh.
During the return trip, the Silver Ghost covered around 1,600 miles using only its top gear, carrying four passengers and luggage, and achieving 24.3mpg. It was this feat that helped cement a reputation for the Silver Ghost as ‘the best car in the world'.
From 1923, Concours visitors will also be able to see the Bugatti Type 23 Brescia, one of 200 ever built, with around 19 known to still exist. This sporting roadster was directly descended from the Brescia Bugattis that placed first, second, third and fourth in the 1921 Italian Grand Prix for Voiturettes.
A stunning pale green Ferrari 250 GTO on show at the Concours is the very same driven by Innes Ireland straight from Maranello to Goodwood for the International Easter Monday race of 1962. It's also the car that won the Tourist Trophy in 1962 and competed at Le Mans in the same year, where it failed to finish.
Ferrari fans will also be able to see a Ferrari 212 Export Vignale making its worldwide Concours debut after an extensive 14-month restoration. The 1951 car was personally driven by Enzo Ferrari to its first owner in Italy, powered by a race-prepared 2.5-litre V12 engine and boasting a berlinetta body styled by Vignale.
Some more recent supercar royalty will also be in attendance, including two Lamborghini supercars: the Miura S and Countach 5000S, along with the extremely rare BMW M1 and Lancia Stratos HF Stradale. The Touring Superleggera Berlinetta Lusso is the most recent car in the Concours, making its UK debut at the event.
Adult tickets for the event costing £35 with discounts for children are now on sale from concoursofelegance.co.uk
