SUZUKI is continuing to expand its line up in the UK with the introduction of a new compact hatchback which will be on sale next year.

The Baleno will sit above the Swift and Celerio in the Japanese car maker's range and will also mark the launch of a new 1.0-litre turbo engine.

The so-called Boosterjet engine has been developed to deliver good performance and economy and will eventually be joined by a mild-hybrid version which uses an integrated starter generator.

The Baleno sits on a new lightweight platform and is said to have more room inside and a bigger boot than the Swift.

It will have its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15 and is due to go on sale in Britain early next summer.
