Honda CR-V - Used

Car Review

Honda CR-V, interior

THE Honda CR-V 4x4 is built for road use, so it's easy to drive and has very good, car-like handling, road holding and performance.

But in the four wheel drive models, when the front wheels lose grip - such as in a muddy field or in winter conditions on the road, the rear pair are take up the drive automatically for added traction.

All of the earlier CR-Vs were four-wheel-drive but some later models were available with just the front wheels driven.

So if you want top traction for towing or to make sure you keep going in ice and snow, make sure you buy right.

All of Honda's cars have an excellent reputation for reliability that other, far more expensive car makers cannot match, and the CR-V is no exception.

Engines in the model built between 2005 and 2012 were a smooth and powerful 2.0-litre petrol with 147bhp and a very good 2.2-litre diesel with 138 or 147bhp.

The diesel is best because of its better economy. It's also very refined for a diesel, but the petrol is wonderfully smooth and sounds lovely.

CR-Vs are stylish for a 4x4, with a good looking and long lasting interior, but the ride is a little firm on some surfaces, which helps towards that excellent road holding.

There's plenty of space for a family of five, and a large boot that can be extended with 60/40 folding back seats.

The driving position is excellent with good adjustment, equipment is generous in all models and both petrol and diesel engines are available with a very good automatic gearbox.
