Mercedes-AMG targets
new SUV scene
AN AMG model is being offered in the mid-size SUV arena for the first time in the shape of the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC.
Powered by a fiery 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine developing 367bhp, the newcomer comes with 9G-TRONIC auto transmission with shortened shift times plus rear biased all-wheel drive and specially tuned sports suspension.
Mercedes says the multiple downshift allows for faster short bursts of speed, while the double-declutching function in the Sport and Sport Plus modes makes for a more emotive driving experience.
The same powerplant is used in several AMG performance models and is the only six-cylinder variant available in the GLC.
It can scorch from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and has an electronically governed top speed of 155mph.
More muscular styling comes via silver chrome coloured and high-gloss black features like the twin-spoke alloy wheels, rear apron, BITURBO 4MATIC lettering and double tail pipes.
Inside there are black leather seats and upholstery along with a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel with red stitching.
Mecedes-AMG chief Tobias Moers said: "The new SUV from Affalterbach marks the pinnacle of the GLC product range and in the AMG portfolio it closes the gap between the GLA and GLE."
