KIA introduced the latest version of its big-selling Sportage model in February and has sold a remarkable 35,000 models in the UK since then.

Now it has announced the introduction of a new specification GT-Line S model, a KX-5 version and a 1.7 DCT semi-automatic powertrain.

An updated multimedia system and new paint options have also been added to the line-up for 2017.

Kia UK says the GT-Line on Sportage has proved to be a big success in its first year, and the higher specification GT-Line S will add to its appeal.

It will be paired with the high powered 2.0 CRDi 6-speed auto and the 1.6 T-GDi seven-speed auto DCT powertrains.

Additional kit also includes heated steering wheel, headlamp washers, bi-xenon headlamps, smart park assist system plus much more.

Replacing the First Edition model is the KX-5. This is a range-topping high end, highly specified model that showcases the full extent of technology that the Sportage range has to offer, available with a 2.0-litre CRDi engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

It features two-tone leather upholstery, electronic parking brake, wireless phone charging plus more over the KX-4.

On 2 and 3 grades, the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission paired with the 1.7 CRDi engine will be available. Kia says this improves fuel consumption and lowers the CO2 when compared to traditional automatics.

Emissions for the DCT version are 129g/km compared to 154g/km for the 2.0-litre diesel automatic.

All Sportage models for 2017 also come with an upgraded multimedia system from the 2 grade and above, offering a number of improvements such as 3D Mapping, SD map updates, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Prices across the range are rising by almost £1,000 and the Sportage line up now starts from £18,250.

The GT-Line S model will be priced from £29,495 and the high specification KX-5 will cost from £31,995.
