THE Tiguan SUV is joining Volkswagen's range of models available on Motability.

Advance payments for those eligible start from £1,499 for a 2.0-litre diesel Tiguan in S trim and rise to £2,749 for four-wheel-drive versions fitted with VW's semi-automatic DSG transmission.

The higher grade Tiguan SE, which includes electronic air conditioning and cruise control as well as parking sensors and a colour display screen is also being made available under the scheme from £1,999.

The cars are being offered to those who receive the higher rate Motability allowance, the enhanced rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment, the War Pensionsers' Mobility Supplement and the Armed Force Independence Payment.

All Tiguans offered on Motability feature a range of driver's assistance systems including Lane Assist, which gently steers the car to keep it within its lane, and Front Assist, which uses radar sensing linked to the throttle and brakes at speeds of up to 19 mph, to control automatically the distance between the Tiguan and the car ahead.

Speed-sensitive power-assisted steering and features such as automatic windscreen wipers and lights are also fitted as is an electronic handbrake which is operated at the touch of a button to hold the car when it is paused on an incline.

Boot space on the Tiguan ranges from 615 litres to a maximum of 1,655.

The Tiguan joins VW's other Motability models which include the up!, Polo, Golf, Golf Estate, Beetle, Passat, Passat Estate, Scirocco, Touran and the Sharan.
