THIS is the stunning new McLaren 720S supercar which is making its global debut at the Geneva International Motor Show.

The new 720S is lighter, faster and even more dynamically capable than its McLaren 650S predecessor and is arguably the most distinctive and remarkable McLaren yet.

One of the key points in the design of the new Super Series model is the absence of radiator intakes on the side of the car. This function is carried out instead by the "double-skin" aerodynamic form of the doors, which channel air to the high-temperature radiators that cool the mid-mounted engine.

The new M480T engine powering the 720S is a win-tutrbocharged V8 4.0-litre generating a maximum of 720bhp and 770Nm of torque.

Performance is astonishing - standstill to 62mph takes less than three seconds and just five seconds later the car has passed the 124mph mark on its way to a maximum speed of 212mph.

With such acceleration, braking is equally impressive. The new 720S comes to a halt from 124mph in just 4.6 seconds with astopping distance of 117 metres.

Fuel economy is a claimed 26mpg with emissions of 249g/km.

McLaren's expertise in carbon fibre structures - every road car built by the British manufacturer since the McLaren F1 in 1993 has had a carbon fibre chassis - underpins the construction of the 720S while a range of aluminium alloys are also used extensively in the chassis, as well as for some body panels.

The cocpkit features the new McLaren driver interface, which comprises a folding driver display and infotainment screen.

The new McLaren 720S is now available to order with the first customers scheduled to receive their cars in May. It will cost £208,600 in the UK.
