MAZDA is updating its supermini line up with a new five model range and the introduction of a limited edition Mazda2 Sport Black model.

Limited to a run of 500 cars and priced from £15,995, the Sport Black is powered by the 90ps version of Mazda's 1.5-litre SKYACTIV petrol engine which is used across the range with power outputs running from 75 to 115ps.

The new Mazda2 line up now starts from £13,295 and tops out at £17,095 with all models featuring extra equipment.

The entry level 75ps model now has 15-inch alloy wheels, heated power fold mirrors, 60/40 split rear seats and electric rear windows while mid-grade trims include dusk-sensing lights, rear parking sensors, rain sensing front wipers and climate control air conditioning.

Top grade GT Sports versions now get a reversing camera, while as before, the flagship 115ps engine is matched to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The rest of the range features a five-speed gearbox, while 90ps versions of the SE-L+, SE-L Nav+ and Sport Nav can be specified with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Sport Black sits on 16-inch alloys and has black detailing on the mirror caps, rear roof spoiler, the side skirt trims, grille and shark fin antenna. It also comes with privacy glass.

The new Mazda2 goes on sale on April 3 and retains the mechanical updates introduced on the current range last June which included G-Vectoring Control and changes to the suspension and steering settings as well as improved noise insulation.

Jeremy Thomson, managing director of Mazda Motors UK said: "These updates come less than a year after the Mazda2 benefited from a host of technical updates and now with enhanced equipment, the 2018 Mazda2 is better value than ever."
