IT may not be the ultimate off-roader, but the latest member of Ford's growing Fiesta family has plenty to offer those with an active lifestyle.
Appropriately named the Fiesta Active, the five-door newcomer is, says Ford, SUV-inspired and comes with additional cladding, custom bumpers, unique 17-inch alloy wheel designs and roof rails to help carry bicycles or sports equipment.
But it's more than just a cosmetic job. Ride height is raised by 18mm to provide greater ability over rough road tracks and track is increased by 10mm over the standard Fiesta hatchback.
Under the skin, the front shock absorbers have been optimized for light off-road work and feature a new hydraulic rebound stopper to smooth out bumps or jolts when driving over rough surfaces while the suspension geometry has been upgraded with bespoke settings for the springs and shock absorbers.
Powertrain options include Ford's multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine offering up to 140 PS and 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine offering up to 120 PS. The petrol engine is available with either six speed manual or six speed auto transmissions, the latter complete with paddle shifters.
The six speed manual box features three driving modes including a "slippery" setting which adjusts electronic stability and traction control settings for increased confidence on surfaces with reduced grip.
The bespoke interior has sports seats with exclusive materials and designs, leather steering wheel and gearknob plus a voice-activated connectivity and entertainment system with touch screen Bluetooth and twin USB ports also fitted.
The Fiesta Active is one sale now in three trim levels - Active 1, Active B&O PLAY and Active X - with prices starting from £17,995.
