LATEST in a seemingly never-ending stream of new models from Mercedes-Benz' AMG performance division is a 306hp, 155mph version of the company's smallest estate car.
In Mercedes-speak, it's the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4MATIC Shooting Brake and it's the fifth variant on the A-class range. It is expected to arrive in British dealerships later this year but details of UK pricing and specification have yet to be revealed.
It's fitted with an AMG-modified, high-torque two-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine with variable all wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch auto transmission. The combination means that the Shooting Brake will shoot from standstill to 60mph in less than 4.9 seconds.
Sporty cosmetic changes to the grille, front apron and splitter and rear spoiler and diffuser help the car stand out from the standard CLA and the body itself has been reinforced to provide additional stiffness to cope with the extra power.
Inside, sporty touches will include an AMG-specific centre console in high-gloss black, black leather sports seats, stainless steel pedals and door sills. Standard fittings include the Mercedes MBUX touchscreen infotainment system.
"The new CLA 35 Shooting Brake, with its expressive design, the agile vehicle dynamics and the flexible load compartment is an attractive alternative for young customers who lead an active life with various leisure activities," says Tobias Moers, Mercedes-AMG chairman.
