A V8 coupe called the Roma has been revealed by Ferrari as its fifth new model of 2019.

The Prancing Horse's new coupe sports a turbo engine that punches out 620bhp at 7,500 rpm, making it the most powerful in its segment where it will be up against the likes of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and the Mercedes-AMG GT.

Prices are still to be confirmed but it is likely the Roma will cost around £180,000 placing it in between the Portofino and the F8 Tributo in its line up.

The newcomer was unveiled in the Italian capital after which it takes its name and it is styled along the lines of the 250 GT Berlinetta lusso and the 250 GT 2+2.

With an eight-speed dual clutch transmission - some six kilos lighter than the previous seven-speed version - Ferrari says the Roma has a 0 to 60 acceleration time of 3.4 seconds and a maximum in the region of 200mph.

A spoiler integrated into the rear screen helps stability at speed the Roma has a mid to front engine set up and a restyled cockpit with ‘defined cells' for the driver and passenger.

A new-look steering wheel with haptic controls are part of the redesign and the Roma has a 16-inch digital instrument panel with an 8.4-inch display in the centre of the dash.

Boot capacity is said to range from 272 to 345 litres.

Ferrari is still to announce economy details for the Roma but it is understood the coupe will be on the road during 2020.

Other new models already announced this year by the Italian brand are the 812 GTS convertible, the F8 Tributo and Spider and the SF90 Stradale hypercar,
