COSMETIC changes on the outside and a new look interior brimming with extra refinements and cutting-edge innovations are hallmarks of an upgraded range of BMW 5 Series models which will be launched at UK dealerships in July.

The new line-up majors on mild-hybrid technology and the system, which features a 48V starter-generator, will be rolled out to all four and six cylinder engined models, except PHEV and M550i xDrive models.

And, like the new BMW5 SeriesSaloon, the new5Series Touring will also be available with a plug-in hybrid drive system from November this year.

Inside, new interior features include a larger 12.3" central information display powered by the latest BMW operating system which includes the company's intelligent personal assistant functions and smartphone integration. The revamped range also benefits from the latest camera and radar-based driving assistance systems, including features like steering and lane-control assistant and active cruise control.

The exterior design of the 2020 5 Series features a wider and deeper kidney grille and slimmer contouring of the full LED headlights which include two U-shaped daytime driving lights. The front aprons of SE and M Sport trim levels have also been redesigned with larger and more pronounced air inlets.

At the back there's a redesigned rear apron with a sportier diffuser on the saloon while the LED taillights are framed by blackened lenses frame.

Both saloon and estate models offer a choice of three trim levels - SE, M Sport and M Sport Edition - while the saloon will also be available in M Performance M550i xDrive guise - the first time this flagship sporting model with its 4.4 litre, 530bhp V8 TwinPower turbocharged powertrain has been available in the UK.

Other powertrain options include three petrol and three diesel engines producing between 184hp and 340hp. All the engines are mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive offered on select variants including the 520d, 530d, 530e, 540i, 545e and M550i.

Prices for the saloon start at £37,480 for the 520i SE, rising to £67,595 for the M550i xDrive while 5 Series Touring models start at £39,730 for the 520i SE, rising to £57,485 for the 540i xDrive.
