FIRST images have been revealed of Hyundai's forthcoming hot compact SUV, the Kona N - and it certainly looks the business.
Not to be confused with the Kona N-Line, which is basically a sporty trim level based on the standard Kona, the Kona N, which will go on sale in the summer, is a fully-fledged high-performance model which has been developed by the Korean company's sporting N Division.
The teaser images reveal distinctly sporting styling with a wider, lower stance than the rest of the Kona range along with distinctive red trim highlights to emphasise the newcomer's sportier character.
The front end is dominated by large air intakes in a deeper front bumper, a redesigned grille and a new light signature - all designed to provide an aggressive, powerful appearance.
The side view is dominated by deeper side skirts and big alloys which will be exclusive to the N model while at the back there's a large double-wing roof spoiler which incorporates a high-level, triangular brake light - a feature common to the company's high-performance N models. A large diffuser is a feature of the new rear bumper which sits above twin exhaust pipes.
The all-new KONA N will be the latest addition to the Hyundai N brand line-up, and the first N model with an SUV body type.
It will share its powertrain with the i30 N with a powerful 247bhp, two litre turbocharged engine promising electrifying performance via an eight-speed dual clutch auto transmission.
Hyundai promises a variety of high-performance driving features which will include stiffened and lowered suspension, high-performance braking system, launch control and what the company calls ‘an emotional sound experience.'
