VOLKSWAGEN has developed a new all-wheel-drive system to handle the power of its latest Golf R model - a car which outperforms all previous models.

With 320ps on tap and a 0 to 60 time of 5.2 seconds the latest Golf R is the most potent iteration yet and is priced from £39,270.

To deal with the power, VW has devised an updated 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring on the rear axle as the basis for mproved vehicle handling of the Golf R.

The so-called 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring set up automatically manages the vehicle's dynamics settings and enables Special and Drift modes to be included in the car's optional performance package.

Other changes see a new manual setting for the car's DSG semi-automatic transmission to give the driver more control.
