THE latest race-inspired special series model from Ferrari has been revealed and it will be the ultimate expression of an extreme sports car, says the Italian supercar maker.
But it's the car with no name - for the time being at least.
The name of the new, limited-editon hypercar will be revealed, along with full technical details, early next month, but we can tell you that it will be fitted with the most powerful version ever of Maranello's legendary V12 engine, which, at 819hp, will have the highest output of any Ferrari road-car engine revving to an astonishing 9,500 rpm, again the highest of any road-legal Ferrari.
It's based on the critically-acclaimed 812 Superfast but the engine's performance has been honed to a never before seen level using state-of-the-art materials. Key components including the valve timing mechanism and exhaust system have been redesigned. Altogether, the technical solutions worked by Ferrari's engineers add up to performance levels that are unprecedented in the V12 segment, says the company.
While the interior very much reflects that of the 812 Superfast there are distinct differences in the exterior styling, most of which come as a result of in-depth aerodynamic research with features which the company says are unprecedented for a road-legal car and are designed to provide a massive increase in downforce.
Distinctive styling features include new front air intakes, rear diffuser and exhaust configuration while a single-piece aluminium structure replaces the Superfast's glass rear screen and houses vortex generators.
Aimed at Ferrari's most passionate collectors and connoisseurs, this latest special series from Maranello will be as rare as hen's teeth - and will undoubtedly cost the equivalent of at least a dozen golden egs.
