BUDGET-brand Dacia has confirmed it will be launching a large SUV based on its Bigster concept model.

The vehicle - which will measure some 4.6 metres in length - will join the seven-seat Jogger MPV as Dacia targets growing mid to large car segment.

It is planning to take on the likes of the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq with the new model which is to be built on parent company Renault's CMF platform also used by the Nissan X-Trail and the soon-to-arrive Renault Austral SUV.

The car is to be built by Dacia at its factory in Romania and the company has also announced it will be building the Jogger at its Moroccan factory in Tanger.

By utilising the platform, Dacia says the sites in Romania and Morocco have capacity to produce saloon, hatchback and SUV vehicles with the choice of two and four-wheel drive and lengths between 4.1m and 4.6m.

The Bigster concept was first unveiled in 2021 and it is likely the production model will feature both electrified and conventional combustion engines.

Denis Le Vot, Dacia chief executive, said: "Twoyears after the presentation of the Renaulution strategic plan, Dacia has successfully completed its phase of radical transformation by renewing its entire range, rolling out a new brand identity and reinforcing its electrified models.

"We are now focusing on going on the offensive in the C-segment and are therefore developing our business plan while remaining true to our values: providing the essentials to our customers and offering the very best value for money."
