NISSAN is cutting the price of its all-electric Ariya SUV by up to £3,750 bringing the car's starting price to under £40,000.

The Ariya line up now starts from £39,945 while top specification models cost from £59,025.

The changes see all 63kWh Ariyas reduced by £3,000 while those with 87kWh batteries are £3,750 cheaper.

Nissan says the new pricing is to offer a competitive and accessible price point for those wanting to switch to electric motoring.

The price difference between the two types of battery is now £5,000 while two new grades are being added to the Ariya range - Engage and Evolve+.

The front wheel drive Ariya Engage is available in both battery sizes with the Evolve+ being a new top-of-the-range e-4ORCE derivative that has almost 30 per cent more power and faster acceleration with 0 to 62mph taking 5.1 seconds from its 388hp powertrain.

Nic Thomas, Nissan GB marketing director said: "Nissan's electrification strategy involves making EVs more accessible and a new entry grade and new top spec variant, both timed with our enhanced pricing, are working to deliver a more enticing customer proposition, based on both price and performance."

The Ariya Engage delivers up to 251 or 330 miles of range depending on battery with the Evolve+ said to be capable of up to 310 miles.
