THE first electric coupe-SUV from BMW will be on the road in the spring of 2024 with the arrival of the iX2 which joins a new line-up of X2 models.

Priced from £56,540 the iX2 has a range of up to 266 miles and a rapid charge time of 29 minutes to 80 per cent capacity from a fast charger.

A full charge at home from a 7.4kW charger will take around ten-and-a-half hours.

Performance figures for the iX2 are maximum speed of 112mph and a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 5.6 seconds with the electric motor developing 313hp.

As such it is the most powerful of the three new X2 models with the petrol powered sDrive 20i and the M35i xDrive pumping out 170 and 300hp respectively.

The new X2 family has grown compared to the first generation model and is now 4.54 metres long - 194mm more than before and the car has sportier lines with more pronounced coupe-like lines..

Boot space is also increased by some 90 litres with the new version capable of taking 560 litres of cargo with a maximum capacity of 1,470 litres.

The mild hybrid BMW X2 sDrive20i has a boot capacity of 515 - 1,400 litres, while the fully electric BMW iX2 offers between 525 and 1,400 litres.

Prices start from £39,365 for the sDrive model and £47,395 for the M35i variant which has an official acceleration time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed restricted to 155mph.

The sDrive20i has a maximum of 132mph and an 8.3 seconds acceleration time with fuel consumption rated at 47.1mpg at best. The M35i has an official fuel return of 36.7.

Emissions for the two petrol models are 139g/km and 175g/km respectively.

M Sport specification is standard across the range and all models come with BMW's new cockpit design which features the iDrive set up with the QuickSelect set up as used in the new BMW i5 and the latest BMW Operating System 9.

At the heart of the display is the standard BMW Curved Display formed by a 10.25-inch information display and a 10.7-inch control display. The screens merge into a single unit behind a continuous glass surface that curves towards the driver.

The new X2 and the iX2 will have their world premiere at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo which will open its doors at the end of October 2023.
