THE new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate will cost from £57,930 with the model available with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The diesel versions will be priced from £59,220 while the plug-ins - which have a range of up to 69 miles on electric power - will cost from £70,270.

Five trim levels are available with the new estate coming in AMG Line, AMG Line Advanced, AMG Line Premium, AMG Line Premium Plus and Exclusive Edition specifications although the PHEV is not being offered in entry or the top levels.

Slightly larger than the previous generation E-Class Estate, the newcomer has a maximum load capacity of 1,830 litres as well as more space in the rear seats.

All versions are fitted with the third generation MBUX infotainment system which includes Apple CarPlay and Android compatibility as well as access to certain third party applications such as Tik Tok and advanced voice control.

All engines are 2.0-litre with the diesel capable of up to 56.5mpg with emissions from 132g/km while the petrol version is rated at 42.2mpg and 153g/km.

Performance figures for the two purely combustion engines are almost identical with 0 to 62mph acceleration times around 7.8 seconds and top speeds of up to 144mph.

The plug-in hybrid has emissions as low as 14g/km with a theoretical fuel consumption of 470.8mpg but is the fastest accelerating of all three powertrains with a 0 to 62mph time of 6.5 seconds and a maximum of 141mph.

Mercedes says a full charge from a standard wallbox takes around three hours and in electric mode the car has a top speed of 87mph.

Boot space on the PHEV is reduced to 460 litres with a maximum of 1,675 litres but all three versions have towing capacities up to 2.1 tonnes.

The new E-Class Estate line up tops out from £69,740 for the E 200 and £71,035 for the E 220 d in Exclusive Editon specification with the E 300 e available from £78,835 in AMG Line Premium Plus trim.
