KGM - which has taken over SsangYong operations - has unveiled its new Torres SUV which will be available with both petrol and electric powertrains.

The Torres is available in two trim levels, the front-wheel-drive K30 and the all-wheel-drive K40 with prices starting from £34,995 and £37,995 respectively.

Prices for the all-electric Torres EVX, which is due to be launched in April, are still to be announced.

The two petrol versions are powered by a 163ps 1.5-litre turbo engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission are due for release in the summer.

Fuel economy is rated at 33.2 mpg while the EVX has a claimed range of up to 287 miles.

Kevin Griffin, managing director of KGM UK, said: "Torres is the first to reinterpret our future design vision, which draws heavily on our unique heritage. Its launch marks an exciting, new era for design, performance, and product with all models moving forward adhering to this new approach.

"The SUV market is continually expanding and subdividing, and with Torres, we are filling the gap between semi-medium-sized SUVs such as Korando and large SUVs like Rexton. This move will create an additional segment in the market and open new opportunities for us as we continue to develop our product offering that adds value and originality."

The Torres has cargo space ranging from 703 to 1,662 litres which KGM claims is best-in-class luggage capacity.

Towing ability is up to 1.5 tonnes with a braked trailer, and 750kg for an unbraked trailer.

Inside, the Torres has a twin-panoramic 12.3-inch digital display cluster and infotainment controls. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, DAB radio, and front USB and AUX ports.
