NISSAN is bolstering its electrified SUV line-up with a new N-Trek X-Trail model that is aimed at families with a love of the outdoors.

Slotting into the X-Trail range between the N-Connecta and Tekna grades, the N-Trek comes with protective lower bumpers front and rear, integrated LED foglamps, gloss black alloy wheels and gloss black wing mirrors and dark roof rails and trim.

The model features Nissan's e-POWER or e-4ORCE powertrains, which use a turbocharged three-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine with variable compression ratio technology to generate electricity and charge the car's battery.

On the e-POWER two-wheel-drive model, the battery powers a single motor connected to the front wheels, while the e-4ORCE all-wheel drive powertrain employs a motor at each axle which can adjust power application 10,000 times per second according to the available grip, maximising traction on slippery surfaces.

Inside, new water-resistant, wipe-clean upholstery reflects the vehicle's adventurous nature and the N-Trek is available in either five or seven seat configurations and is fitted with rubber floor mats and a reversible boot-liner.

Options include towbars, roof bars, bike racks and a cargo area organiser.

Fuel economy ranges from a best of 48.7mpg for the two-wheel-drive e-Power to 44.1 to the gallon for the all-wheel-drive e-4ORCE with emissions running from 131 to 148g/km.

Performance figures are 0 to 62mph acceleration of eight seconds and around seven seconds respectively with top speeds of 105 to 111mph.

Prices have still to be confirmed but are expected to start from around £41,000 for the five-seat e-POWER with the e-4ORCE model costing about £2,000 more.
