A PERFORMANCE version of the new Renault Rafale SUV has been announced and it comes with plug-in power as well as high-tech driving aids.
Developing a total of 300hp allied to all-wheel drive it has an all-electric range of up to 62 miles and a theoretical fuel economy of 403.5 mpg.
Renault says the Rafale E-Tech 4x4 has real world range of up to 621 miles with its 1.2-litre petrol engine rated at 48.7 mpg.
The three-cylinder petrol engine develops 150hp and it is linked up to three electric motors giving a total power output of 300hp.
Performance figures are a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 6.4 seconds - more than two seconds quicker than the hybrid Rafale - with a full recharge taking two hours 55 minutes.
Emissions are as low as 15g/km when fully charged and 132g/km on an empty battery.
The Rafale E-Tech 4x4 will be available in a new Atelier Alpine specification and is distinguished from the hybrid version by a floating rear spoiler, 21-inch wheels and a specially tuned chassis developed by engineers at Alpine Cars.
As well as all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering it has a smart active suspension system that uses a camera to read the road ahead and make necessary adjustments.
A chassis control menu on the multimedia screen lets drivers adjust the 4Control Advanced settings, the damping profile and the rear steering angles in three ways - for comfort, dynamic or sporty driving.
Prices for the new model will be announced in June but are certain to be more than the hybrid Rafale which starts from £38,195.
