A NEW generation of BMW 1 Series models are on the way and dealers are already taking orders for the new range with first deliveries expected in October.

The new fourth generation 1 Series range initially comprises two core variants, the entry level 120, priced from £29,950 and the sporty M135 which starts from £41,000. In typical BMW fashion, there will be a host of add-on options available.

The new range features what BMW calls ‘a new and dynamic design presence', but you could never mistake it for anything other than a BMW. Although it's ever-so-slightly longer and higher than before the new styling means that it sits significantly lower to the road than its predecessor while the wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille features an innovative structure comprised of vertical and diagonal bars.

For an even more dynamic on-road presence, there's an M Sport spec available at launch. which features large air intakes on the front apron, pronounced side skirts and a three- dimensional diffuser element in the rear apron.

Under the skin, BMW's engineers have built-in improved body rigidity and further developed the 1 Series chassis to provide enhanced agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics while the 120's latest, three-cylinder petrol engine comes with a 48-volt mild hybrid system which is integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic, dual-clutch gearbox. BMW quotes an impressive 170hp and a benchmark 0-62mph acceleration time of 7.8 seconds.

With its' 300hp, four-cylinder power plant, the latest top-of-the range M135 xDrive model promises to be blisteringly quick with the 0-62mph sprint ticked-off in just 4.9 seconds. It comes with an adaptive M Chassis with sport steering and intelligent all-wheel drive as standard.

All versions get a newly designed interior and a significantly expanded range of standard equipment including automatic air conditioning, alarm system, electrically folding exterior mirrors, LED headlights, heated front seats and BMW Live Cockpit Plus including the BMW Maps cloud-based navigation system across all models. M Sport and M135 xDrive models also benefit from Sport seats, adaptive suspension and 18" alloy wheels alongside a wide range of other features.

There's also a wider range of standard-fit automated driving and parking systems including a driving assistance system with front collision warning, lane departure warning, exit warning and traffic sign recognition, as well as parking and reversing assistance. Multiple other safety and convenience systems are available as options
