MUD, mud and even more glorious mud is the natural squelching ground for a new go-anywhere version of Isuzu's renowned D-Max pick-up truck.

Appropriately named the Mudmaster and based on the fully equipped D-Max V-Cross trim, it's a special off-road edition of the Japanese pick-up and is designed to conquer the toughest terrain from speeding down dirt tracks, to clambering over rugged rocks or wading through flooded river beds.

Priced from £36,495 in manual gearbox form, with an automatic version costing £2k more, it's described as a special project by Isuzu's British importers who have raided the brand's parts and accessories catalogue to create what it believes is the ultimate off-roader.

It comes equipped with a snorkel, a winch, lifted off-road suspension, powerful lamps on the grille and roof, steel chassis armour and a raft of other accessories.

George Wallis, Isuzu UK's head of marketing, says: "This special project vehicle exemplifies the versatility and robustness of the D-Max, offering our customers a vehicle that can handle the most extreme off-road conditions while still providing a comfortable driving experience on regular roads. It's muddy brilliant."
