THE motoring world may be slowly shifting to electric power but Audi isn't ready to give up on good old petrol and diesel power just yet.
In parallel with its rollout of fully electric vehicles, the VW Group's premium brand is continuing to develop its' core combustion engine models such as the Q5 SUV, the latest versions of which will arrive in the UK next Spring.
The German maker says that it is "intensively developing" its' internal combustion engine (ICE) line-up and the new Q5 family is the first to be based on a new platform engineered for premium petrol and diesel-engined models.
The new platform underpins a new more sporting look and houses powerful petrol and diesel engines that are now more economical thanks to advanced mild hybrid technology, and a new electronics system.
The latest four-cylinder two litre petrol and diesel engines both boast 201bhp, top speeds of 140mph with acceleration from standstill to 60mph in around seven seconds. Topping the new range, the SQ5 is fitted with a powerful 362bhp, V6 petrol engine which gives a top speed of 155mph and enables the flagship model to cover the 0-60mph sprint in less than 4.5 seconds.
Three trim levels are available - Sport, S line and Edition 1 - for the Q5 while the SQ5 comes with its own S-specific trim package.
First deliveries of the new range are scheduled for April 2025 with the Q5 TFSI and Q5 TDI priced from £49,950 and £51,600 respectively and the SQ5 starting from £74,400. A plug-in hybrid powertrain will be added to the lineup at a later stage.
