THE champagne corks are popping at Renault as the company celebrates a hat-trick of award wins at one of the UK's most prestigious motoring awards ceremonies.

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric was crowned Electric Car of the Year at the News UK Motor Awards 2024 while the Scenic E-Tech electric took the Family Car of the Year title, and Renault was recognised as Manufacturer of the Year.

The Motor Awards 2024 were judged by a panel of News UK's motoring journalists with each winner selected after they had assessed all the latest cars in each category.

Will Dron, editor of Driving.co.uk, said: "Renault is the standout carmaker this year, with a product offensive to make rivals weep. The new Renault 5 is a brilliant modern interpretation of a classic that brings fun and colour to the small electric car segment, while the Scenic is a characterful and practical family EV. With the new Renault 4 on its way, and updates of the existing line-up, Renault is most definitely on a roll."

And a delighted Adam Wood, the managing director of Renault UK, said: "These latest awards underline how the return of the iconic Renault 5 as a pure electric supermini is set to capture Britain's hearts and minds, while the Scenic E-Tech 100% electric is already writing the next chapter in family mobility."

No fewer than 25 awards were handed out and other main winners included the Porsche Macan Electric which was named The Sunday Times Car of the Year and the Mini Cooper which triumphed as The Sun Car of the Year.

Other notable award winners included the Dacia Duster (Value Car of the Year), Kia's Picanto (City/Small Car of the Year) and EV3 (Small SUV/Crossover of the Year), BMW 5 Series (Company Car of the Year), Land Rover Defender (Adventure Car of the Year), Mercedes-AMG GT (Best Designed Car of the Year), Hyundai Ioniq 5 N (Hot Hatch of the Year) and the Aston Martin Vantage which was named as the Sun Dream Car of the Year.
