THE performance-oriented MINI John Cooper Works is getting more sporty features as the brand gears up to release petrol-powered versions following the launch of the electric JCW.

A centrally mounted exhaust and motorsport interior design including stainless steel pedals as well as a red and black knitted dashboard are to be fitted on the car from next year.

The MINI John Cooper Works and MINI John Cooper Works Convertible will be produced at the home of MINI production, MINI Plant Oxford and priced from £31,200 and £35,200 respectively.

The electric JCW is priced from £38,420.

Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin turbo petrol engine developing 228bhp the MINI John Cooper Works has a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 155mph, while the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible hits 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 152mph.

Best fuel economy is said to be 43.4mpg for the hatch and 41.5 for the convertible with respective emissions of 147 and 155g/km.

Both models are fitted with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and enhanced suspension to increase handling ability.

The MINI John Cooper Works Convertible is offered as standard with Chili Red exterior paint, 17-inch alloy wheels and a choice of seven further body colours optionally, including the model exclusive Cooper Grey. Both cars have an option of black or red mirror caps, while LED headlights - with daytime horizontal JCW specific running lights - are standard.

The interior is focused on the high-resolution OLED display and toggle bar found in the rest of the MINI family.

A new 24cm central instrument display provides relevant information and can be operated by the driver and passenger. MINI Experience Modes - Vivid, Core, Green, Timeless, Balance and Personal allow the ambience in the interior to be customised while new JCW mode additionally shows performance related data including power, torque, engine temperature and a G-Force meter.

Offering an increase in standard specification, both models receive MINI's Level 1 kit as standard, which includes a head-up display, wireless charging, high beam assist, heated front seats and exterior mirror package. Each model additionally receives a Harmon Kardon sound system as standard.
