WITH chancellor Rachel Reeves promising £2bn in funding for green hydrogen projects across the UK, it's great news for Hyundai which will be launching an all-new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle next year.
And it's now given a sneak preview of the styling of the new model by revealing a concept SUV which the company says showcases its latest design language.
The Korean company says that the Initium hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) concept provides a preview of a new production FCEV which it plans to unveil in the first half of next year and reflects its clear commitment to achieving a sustainable hydrogen society.
Says Jaehoon Chang, Hyundai's president and CEO: "We are dedicated to pioneering a future where hydrogen is used by everyone, in everything, and everywhere."
The SUV concept also marks the debut of Hyundai's new design language - called ‘Art of Steel' - with touches like the square-shaped daytime running lights and lighting signature dedicated to hydrogen-powered fuel-cell models in the future.
Industry insiders believe that next year's new FCEV model will replace Hyundai's existing hydrogen-powered model, the Nexo, which has had limited sales in the UK, thanks largely to a lack of refuelling facilities across the nation.
And whether or not the new model will come to the UK may well depend on when the government's investment in hydrogen projects translates into a better nationwide refuelling infrastructure.
