HYUNDAI has topped its Ioniq line-up with a new three-row, all-electric SUV, blending superior space, unique design and advanced EV technology.
The Ioniq 9 was unveiled in California before the Los Angeles Auto Show ahead of its launch in 2025.
Looking similar to the new Santa Fe seven-seat SUV, the Ioniq 9 is a big car measuring 5.06 metres long - that's more than 15 feet - and it is Hyundai's largest passenger vehicle.
Boot space is generous too at a maximum of 1,323 litres with the rear seats folded. Even with all three rows upright there is 620 litres available.
Two powertrain options are on offer in either rear or all-wheel drive set ups with the former being driven by a 160kW motor and the latter boosted by a motor at the front which produces 70kW.
The range is said to be up to 335 miles on a full charge and recharging can be done in 24 minutes from a 350kW wall charger.
Acceleration from 0 to 60mph is a brisk 4.9 seconds.
Pricing is still to be announced but is likely to start from around £65,000, topping out in the mid £80 000s.
With a roomy interior Hyundai is also making the Ioniq 9 available in a six-seat configuration with swivelling chairs in the middle row.
The infotainment system includes a 12-inch cluster and a 12-inch integrated monitor as part of the panoramic curved display.
The standard in-car audio setup features an eight-speaker sound system, with the option of a premium Bose 14-speaker stereo, which supports 5.1-channel surround sound, wireless updates and advanced Bose features. It also incorporates e-Active Sound Design (e-ASD), which outputs the virtual driving sound of an EV using the vehicle's audio system.
The Ioniq 9 will go on sale in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, with subsequent rollout planned for Europe and other markets later. Detailed specifications will be unveiled closer to its UK launch.
