THE Range Rover Velar arrived back in 2017 and it sits above the Evoque and below the Sport in the range.

A fairly recent upgrade resulted in some mild cosmetic changes to its stylish looks with slimmer headlights and a new grille with a different pattern but most people will be pushed to spot the difference.

The real changes are inside where a single screen dominates and controls everything giving a minimalist feel to the cabin, which makes it look a big sparse.

There is still a choice of petrol and diesel engines as well as a plug-in hybrid, which will appeal to business users for tax reasons and is able to travel up to 40 miles on battery power.

I have been sampling the Dynamic SE model with its 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine which punts out 300PS.

It has all wheel drive and can reach 60mph in just 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 143mph.

All this power is delivered smoothly through its eight-speed automatic transmission.

It is capable of up to 37.5 mpg with 197g/km emissions. In my opinion this diesel unit is the best choice for the sporty Velar as it copes easily with the vehicle's weight.

The Velar still looks as good and as fresh today as it did in 2017 with its coupe-like profile and the upgraded front and rear lights have helped to modernise it without damaging its looks.

The interior design of this latest model will not appeal to everyone as many will feel it has been decluttered too much.

The single screen runs the Range Rover's latest infotainment software and it is very good but it boasts too many features and is difficult to use on the move. I feel they should have left the climate controls as a separateunit.

Four adults can travel in real comfort and the large 552-litre boot has a powered tailgate to make access easy.

Standard features in this model are generous and include full leather upholstery, heated and electric seats, heated steering wheel and smart alloy wheels.

You can personalise the car by ticking some of the optional extras offered but be smart as £7,760 was added to the £63,200 base price of this model.
