THE cat's finally out of the bag and one of motoring's worst-kept secrets of 2025 has now been revealed as Nissan finally unveils the much-vaunted, all-new, all-electric sixth-generation Micra.
But it will be a long wait for British buyers, for although European sales are slated to begin late this year, it's unlikely the Micra will return to British shores until Spring next year.
For the new Micra - which used to be built in Sunderland - shares its underpinnings with the Renault 5 EV and will be built at a Renault-Nissan Alliance factory in France
Its arrival signals the next major step in Nissan's bold product offensive in Europe, with four new fully electric models slated to be launched by 2027 as part of its push towards electrification.
Designed at Nissan Design Europe in London, the new Micra has a distinctive new exterior look which its' creators reckon gives it ‘a ton of attitude'.
It's a boxy, SUV-like design with pronounced wheel arches but comes with distinctive reminders of the past including eyebrow-style running lights and round rear lights all of which create a retro link with the much-loved, bubble-eyed, third-gen Micra of the early 2000s.
Under the skin, however, it's very much mid-2020s with a fully electrified powertrain and a choice of two battery options - 40kWh and 52kWh - providing 192 and 253 miles of real-world of range respectively. And thanks to its 100kW DC charger - or 80kw on the 40kWh version - quick charging from 15-80 per cent can be achieved in 30 minutes
Standard specs and trim levels have yet to be revealed but all versions will come with 18" wheels, and NissanConnect with Google built-in services allowing buyers to make calls, stream music, plan trips, connect with smart home devices, message contacts and control several vehicle functions through voice-control.
And the latest Micra will be available with a full suite of driver assistance and safety features including lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking.
Says Nissan's regional vice president Arnaud Charpentier: "We are proud to oversee the return of the Micra name to Nissan's range in Europe. It's a name with over 40 years of history and the new chapter it will write for Nissan and our customer is a purely electrified one - but it remains true to its DNA of being playful, audacious and agile. It will electrify the streets wherever it goes,"
