KIA is spicing up its electric vehicles with the announcement of two GT versions of its EV6 and EV9 models.
Priced from £59,985 and £82,185 respectively the pair bring near supercar performance to their sectors.
The EV6 has a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 161mph while the larger EV9 SUV can manage 0-to-62mph in 4.6 seconds, on to a maximum of 136mph.
Respective ranges are 279 miles for the EV6 and 280 miles for the EV9.
The EV6 GT has improved battery performance and is powered by a new 84kWh battery pack that is 8.5 per cent bigger than the previous generation EV6 GT battery.
It is powered by an all-wheel drive, dual-motor drivetrain, making he GT is capable of producing up to 641bhp and 770Nm of torque - an increase of 64bhp and 30Nm over its predecessor.
Along with neon green brake callipers front and rear, neon green piping throughout the interior, and a neon green ‘GT' button on the steering wheel, the new model boasts various premium and performance-focused improvements including Virtual Gear Shift technology, simulating a six-speed paddle-operated transmission.
It is a first for Kia and when activated, provides drivers with new visual, audible and tactile cues to make the car more engaging.
The upgraded model also features an enhanced GT Mode, a dedicated drive mode activated using the neon green button on the steering wheel which sharpens up steering responses. GT Mode also changes the theme of the 12.3-inch driver display screen, with neon green details and a new font for the speed and range readouts.
Kia says the new EV6 GT can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in 18 minutes from a fast charger.
Inside, the previous glossy piano black materials have been replaced with a brushed metal-effect finish, reducing the accumulation of fingerprint smudges throughout the cabin and the car is fitted with electrically powered front bucket seats.
The EV 9 GT is a car that combines power, performance and driver engagement in a practical and versatile three-row SUV package, creating an electric ‘grand tourer' halo model for families.
Its dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain produces 502bhp across a wide power band from 3,800-8,000rpm and it has a 99.8kWh battery pack enabling a 10-to-80 per cent charge in 24 minutes from a fast charger.
The EV9 GT also features all the driver assistance systems found on the EV9. In addition, the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is now customisable, allowing the driver to adjust the over-speed warning on the EV9 GT.
Over and above the conventional EV9, the GT's added power is supported by electronically controlled suspension as standard, as well as a Road Preview System to detect and react to changing road surfaces.
The EV9 GT is positioned as a high-performance electric ‘grand tourer' for families. Kia says it's a practical, versatile SUV in all conditions, which - when the mood takes the driver - can be turned into a more exciting and engaging machine at the push of a button, or the flick of a paddle.
Both models are covered by Kia's seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, with battery pack and motors covered for eight years.
First UK customer deliveries for the EV9 GT are due to commence in late autumn while the EV6 GT is available as of now.
