THE Renault Twingo is making a comeback as an electric car with a price tag under £20,000.

The iconic city car - first launched in 1992 - is being relaunched as the Twingo E-Tech with a range of up to 163 miles.

With a length of 3.79 metres - similar to that of the original model - it will have a top speed of 81mph and a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 12.1 seconds.

It will be built at Renault's Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia and is scheduled for release in 2027.

It has a boot capacity of 360 litres which extends to more than 1,000 litres with the rear seats folded.

A dual horizontal OpenR screen gives the interior of Twingo E-Tech electric a contemporary look and all versions feature the same configuration: a seven-inch digital instrument panel facing the driver for driving information and a 10-inch central multimedia screen.

Renault says the new Twingo is designed as a city car and will have a one-pedal driving ability for ease of use in traffic.
