OMODA and JAECOO UK has proven that its JAECOO 7 SHS-P and OMODA 7 SHS-P have set a new benchmark in plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) range as it reveals the results from a recent test.
The only PHEV in SUV form currently on sale capable of over 800 miles, the JAECOO 7 SHS-P did 828 miles, and the OMODA 7 SHS-P recorded 770 - both ahead of their official WLTP figures.
The ground-breaking economy run took place in late June at UTAC Millbrook on a closed proving ground designed to emulate real-world driving conditions.
Over the course of two days, the company set the economy challenge on the circuit - a two-mile-long, five-lane-wide banked circular circuit, which was chosen for dual carriageway and motorway conditions, as well as the hill route, designed to replicate countryside driving.
During the economy challenge, the JAECOO 7 SHS-P covered 828 miles. The official figure for the JAECOO 7 SHS-P stands at 745 miles, including 56 miles of EV-only driving from an 18.3 kWh battery.
Meanwhile, the OMODA 7 SHS-P covered 770 miles. The official figure for the OMODA 7 SHS-P is recorded as over 700 miles, including 56 miles of pure electric range, also from an 18.3 kWh battery.
The challenge centred on the fifth-generation Super Hybrid System (SHS), designed to combine strong real-world efficiency with long-distance usability and everyday practicality. Throughout the challenge, the vehicles balanced electric driving capability with intelligent hybrid operation, adapting continuously to changing conditions under the guidance of the experienced driving team.
The economy drive challenge was led by efficiency-focused drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke - who both hold previous world records for fuel economy and energy consumption in electric vehicles and long-range test drives.
Kevin, who took to the economy challenge in the OMODA 7 SHS-P, was joined by a couple of his most trusted and well-practised economy drivers. Sam was behind the wheel of the JAECOO 7 SHS-P for the economy run, along with two other efficiency-led
Commenting on the unprecedented success of the economy run, Gary Lan, CEO of OMODA and JAECOO UK, said: "At OMODA&JAECOO, an economy record is more than a test of fuel efficiency - it's a celebration of intelligent engineering, thoughtful driving and the journey toward a smarter future of mobility. Success isn't measured by speed, but by the ability to go farther with less, proving that innovation and efficiency can work hand in hand. Every mile completed and every drop of fuel saved reflects our commitment to creating vehicles that are not only powerful and stylish, but also responsible and sustainable."
Kevin Booker, lead economy driver in the challenge, commented: "Having driven the SHS-P system in the OMODA 9, where we travelled through nine countries on one tank and one charge, I knew the OMODA 7 and JAECOO 7 would have the potential to surpass their official WLTP figures. The challenge was proving it.
"This was all about demonstrating what can be achieved in these cars. What many people won't realise is that we completed this challenge during a heatwave. Although the mileage was covered over two days at Millbrook, the time flew by behind the wheel, even at highs of 41 degrees."
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P is priced from £35,170, while the OMODA 7 SHS-P starts from £32,005. Both models are supported by a comprehensive 7-year/100,000-mile warranty, with an additional 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.
