Eos gets a taste for
eco motoring
BLUEMOTION technology has allowed the Eos convertible-coupe model to become Volkswagen's latest eco-champion.
With the first petrol engine featuring the German maker's full compliment of fuel-saving gadgetry under its bonnet, the ritzy open-top car becomes capable of 45mpg economy.
Priced from £20,695, the BlueMotion Technology model uses a new 1.4-litre TSI motor that develops 122bhp - sufficient for it to reach the benchmark acceleration rate of 62mph in 10.9 seconds and go on to a top speed of 121mph.
Asix-speed gearbox, regenerative braking, start-stop equipment and a visual gear change recommendation contribute to economy of 45.6mpg in average use.
A hill-hold system also comes as standard on the car, which also has an electronic stability programme, twin front and side impact airbags, air conditioning, fog lamps, power windows, electric headed and adjustable mirrors, alloy wheels and a fold hard-top complete with a slide-tilt sunroof.
For an additional premium of £1,100, the SE BlueMotion Technology adds further equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel and front sports seats, parking sensors, automatic headlights and dusk and rain sensors.
