Best ride in the
business
THE Citroen C5 has the best ride in its class and the one above in any of the three models to bear the name.
This big Citroen's amazing fluidity over even the most undulating and potholed surfaces is an absolute revelation and shows just how good a car's ride can be.
However, its excellence doesn't stop there. It also hugs the road through corners like a sportscar, with very little roll and tremendous grip.
The steering is a little lifeless but that is my only possible suspension or handling criticism - overall, it is simply superb.
The Mk II model made between 2004 and 2008 was available with 1.8, 2.0 and 3.0-litre petrol engines, but the diesels are the ones to go for - 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2-litre HDi.
All offer reasonable or good performance and the 2.0-litre will do 47mpg with low emissions, helped by a six speed gearbox
The gearchange is smooth and slick and the clutch light.
The interior is vast, with superb rear legroom even behind my six foot frame and a massive boot.
